Herbalism and Holistic Health FAQ

What is an Herbalist?

Herbalists, also known as herbal practitioners or licensed herbalists, are trained professionals in herbal medicine. They utilize natural substances and plants to promote healing, enhance health, maintain balance, and prevent illness. Commonly used botanicals include berries, seeds, roots, leaves, bark, and flowers. In the United States, herbal products are categorized as dietary supplements rather than medicines. Herbalists adopt a holistic approach to healthcare, addressing the mental, physical, emotional, spiritual, social, and economic needs of their patients. My clinical herbalist certification took 900 hours!

Can herbs and pharmaceuticals be used together?

I always suggest using one or the other. Most of the time herbs are safe to use with pharmaceuticals, but there are still certain herbs that can cause interactions. It's always advised to talk with your doctor first before using new herbal remedies.

How does Herbal Medicine work?

Herbs have been utilized safely for medicinal purposes thousands of years, typically resulting in minimal side effects when recommended by a qualified herbalist. The unique safety and effectiveness of Chinese herbs lie in the skillful combination of herbs, creating a well-balanced prescription or herbal formula.

Are herbs effective like western medicine?

Absolutely. Numerous conditions that are addressed by Western pharmaceuticals can also be effectively managed with herbal remedies. Almost every ailment or disease has a corresponding herb. The key distinction with herbal medicine is its ability to address the underlying cause of your symptoms.
